Over 110 UK MPs condemn India on 1984 and Violation of Sikh human rights

EDM 1890 was tabled last week by Dominic Grieve MP, the Shadow Attorney General and immediately supported by many of the Shadow Cabinet, including Rt Hon Michael Ancram QC MP, the Shadow Foreign Secretary and Oliver Letwin MP, the Shadow Chancellor of the Exchequer. It was no coincidence that this motion was tabled on the eve of the Sikh Lobby Day.

The signatures on this EDM last week took the number of MPs supporting Parliamentary motions condemning India about 1984 and the violation of Sikh human rights by the Indian authorities to over 110 different MPs. The number is expected to reach 150 MPs by the end of this week when the 2003-04 Parliamentary Session comes to an end. After the Sikh Lobby Day leading MPs from each of the main political parties confirmed they would be pushing for a debate on 1984 after the Queen's speech on 23 November.
