The fight against terror was discussed at a conference
of Sikhs in Derby.
Jagtar Singh, a member of the National Executive
Council of the Sikh Federation UK, said all Sikhs
were totally opposed to terrorism.
He was speaking at the Guru Arjan Dev Gurdwara,
Stanhope Street, as part of the annual Sikh Federation
UK conference.
The federation is supporting the campaign by the
Mayor of London, Ken Livingstone, to persuade
the Government that any measures to address the
threat of terrorism should be directed at those
who plan, support or carry out terrorist attacks
and should not result in criminalising communities.
Jagtar Singh said: "Young Sikhs need to get
involved in their communities, in politics, the
media and every other aspect of British life.
Sikhs have a long history of persecution and this
will only change if our youngsters get involved
in life in Britain today."
The conference, designed to raise awareness within
the Sikh community, ran over three days on Friday,
Saturday and Sunday. |
